On-Site Checklist
0 / 0Modes
Pick the mode based on how much control you need after filming.
360 Mode
Most flexible. Shoot everything around you, then choose the angle in the app.
Best defaultSingle-Lens
Works like a normal action cam. Use when you already know where to point.
4K30 maxMe Mode
Third-person clips with less editing. Keep yourself framed with the selfie stick.
Great for socialsTimeShift
Hyperlapse-style motion for walking, boating transitions, and travel routes.
Speed ramps72MP Photo
Use for still scenes, property views, docks, decks, and travel panoramas.
High detailBoat / Action Recipe
Use this when movement, spray, horizon tilt, and changing angles are the problem.
On-The-Water Action With A Stable Horizon
Mount high and centered when possible. Use 360 capture so you can reframe toward the driver, wake, dock, or coastline later.
- Clean water droplets before every clip.
- Avoid pointing the stitch line at the main subject.
- Use a tether for risky mounts on boats.
- Record a short test clip before the real action.
Editing Workflow
The simple path: import, reframe, trim, export, share.
-
1
Import
Open the Insta360 app or Studio and bring in the clip from the camera or SD card.
-
2
Reframe
Choose the angle. Add keyframes where the view should turn, pan, or zoom.
-
3
Track
Use subject tracking when the action stays on one rider, person, boat, or object.
-
4
Edit
Trim weak seconds, straighten the horizon, adjust color, and add simple music.
-
5
Export
Export vertical for reels, horizontal for YouTube/Facebook, or square if needed.
First Practice Mission
Shoot a 20-second 360 clip walking or boating slowly. Reframe it once as a vertical Reel and once as a horizontal clip.
Field Settings Cheat Sheet
These are practical starting points. Adjust after a short test clip.
Bright Outdoor
Auto exposure is fine to start. If white wake or sky looks blown out, lower EV slightly.
Low Light
Keep movement slower. Use standard video or photo modes instead of fast action recipes.
Water
The X3 is rated waterproof to 33 ft / 10 m, but underwater 360 stitching needs the dive case.
Stitch Line
Keep people, faces, fishing rods, rails, and key action away from the camera sides.
